WORK SESSION
Municipal Water Article - Information Pamphlet Review
Present to discuss this item were Dr. Karl Weiss, Chairman, Water Resources Advisory Board, and members of the Water Resources Advisory Board.
Two approaches were discussed concerning the Municipal Water article. One approach was to only request $4.5 million for the study portion of the project. The second approach was to use the identical article from the May 2007 Town Meeting. The Board debated at length both concepts, reviewing letters and comments as relayed by Dr. Karl Weiss as gathered at the Water Resources Advisory Committee meeting.
Selectman David Schropfer made a motion that the warrant article for the Special Town Meeting scheduled for October 1, 2007, be identical to that of the May 2007 Town Meeting. The motion was seconded by Selectman Kenelm Collins and so voted 5-0.
Goals
The Board discussed their list of goals for the upcoming year and decided which ones they should focus on.
They also took a look at the list of the goals and priorities that Town department heads came up with at their department head meeting.
Search Committee Charge
The Board will discuss this issue at their next meeting.
OTHER BUSINESS
Historical Society - Old Schoolhouse Restoration
At the August 20, 2007 Board of Selectmen’s meeting, Mr. Henry Curtis, Chairman of the Community Preservation Committee, asked the Board to include a Community Preservation Committee article for work at the Old Schoolhouse Museum at the Special Town Meeting on October 1, 2007.
The Board had delayed a vote on whether to include this article pending a vote of the full Community Preservation Committee. The Community Preservation Committee at their August 21, 2007 meeting, voted in favor of recommending that the Town vote to grant money to the Historical Society for the project.
Selectman Carol Martin made a motion that the October 1, 2007 Special Town Meeting include a second warrant article to transfer money from the Community Preservation Fund to the Historical Society for the Old Schoolhouse Museum renovations. The motion was seconded by Selectman Martin McDonald and so voted 4-0, with Mr. Collins abstaining.
Staircase at Thumpertown
The Board was notified that the plans for the stairs at Thumpertown Beach were ready. Town Administrator, Sheila Vanderhoef, told the Board that the plans, at her request, were being revised to provide handicap accessibility to the top platform. It was noted that a landing will be constructed at the midway point of the stairs, but it will have no benches or observation area. All of the Selectmen were supportive of the concept.
Selectman Burt and Selectman Collins left the meeting at 4:45 p.m.
Selectman Schropfer, Selectman McDonald, and Selectman Martin continued the discussion on the plans for the stairs at Thumpertown Beach.
Selectman Schropfer made a motion to adjourn at 5:00 p.m. The motion was seconded by Selectman Martin and so voted 3-0.
Respectfully Submitted,
Lisa Shaw
